too much stuff

Google’s desktop bet – everybody’s favorite search engine is moving to your desktop, in order to help you find files on your own computer!

Beijing testing SARS vaccine

Shrek 2 take is big and green like its star – the biggest take since (and in some cases, larger than) Spider-Man’s release.

‘Potter’ premiere sizzles – two questions: why wasn’t I that cool when I was 14? and, where was Gary Oldman?

Bush Speech to Try to Assure Americans on Iraq – we’re all rooting for a Burning Bush over here…

newsmap – a socially generative net.art project, ‘Newsmap is an application that visually reflects the constantly changing landscape of the Google News news aggregator…. Treemaps are traditionally space-constrained visualizations of information. Newsmap’s objective takes that goal a step further and provides a tool to divide information into quickly recognizable bands which, when presented together, reveal underlying patterns in news reporting across cultures and within news segments in constant change around the globe.’

‘MidiTron is a new MIDI to real-world interface designed to simplify the process of creating sensor and robotics based electronic art projects. It is easily user configurable and provides 20 terminals of digital and analog inputs and outputs in any combination.’

as usual: politics, macs, art and tech

Kerry revives ’92 election theme to attack Bush – Dean praises Kerry and they both stomp Bush.

Kerry Vies for Screen Time – this is so ironic. Right after the primaries, Kerry was in the lead; following lots of media attacks / presidential infomercials, Bush took over. But if you looked at the numbers, it wasn’t that Bush’s popularity had increased – it was that his slander had sufficiently decreased Kerry’s popularity. Thanks to some real Iraq coverage now (not that I’m happy about what is going on – trust me), it seems like the reverse is happening. Kerry may not be getting the national coverage he wants – but most of the Bush news is negative

Booting Up Interactive Art in Shows of Prizewinners – a kind of ARS Electronica retrospective; will interactive art soon be an accepted and engaging form by, and for, the mainstream?

Apple – Mac OS X – Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac – new layouts, incorporated applescript, and more… But those who look to pirate, beware! There have been a few reported cases of OS X viruses from limewire…

net.art et al

Political Friendster – hot hot hot on the net.art trail! And very smart. Check it out.

Smart Mobs: FlyNet on Lufthansa – wireless broadband on planes!

PearPC 0.1: Is It A Miracle? – OSNews.com – OK, so Macs are still *much* sexier than PCs, and this emulator is about 40 times slower than an actual G4, but I have to admit it: it’s a bit of coolness that they managed to get OS X.3 to run on a PC. Imagine paying 1/3 the price for a “Mac”…

coin-operated.com: check out the re-design of the ever-interesting Jonah Brucker-Cohen blog

It’s official. I am broke. Please buy my art. please

comments

Comments have now been added to my blog! Woohoo! Blogger now has it’s own, free, commenting system (click the ‘get a weblog’ link, above, to use their free service).

A note on the redesign of this blog:
Now that comments have been added, I had to make a few changes; first, permalinks and commenting features will open in a new window, rather than in this frame, to allow room for the comment posting board; second, and more important, ALL permalink addresses have changed, in order to accommodate this new technology. This means that if you are linking to an older post on my site, you may want to update your permalink to match the new name! Granted, I’ve left my old blog pages up, so they should still work, but I can’t guarantee that all the links within those older posts will work anymore, since I am using a new system. You still like me, tho, right?

ketchup

near…ly…there….

Did you miss me? The last few weeks have been hektik with prepping for the artspace show, but in all, I think it went well. Marcus is cool.

I booked my trip to Cuba, NYC and Dublin. I doubt I know anyone who will be at the former, but I’ll be ‘home’ from 3 July – 13 July, and in Dubs from then until 27 July. Plan on a party, and contact me if you want me there ;)

Willem Boshoff has an opening at the Goodman Gallery this week, which you will not want to miss. I’ve been really bad about keeping up with 52.co.za, but check out the works as of late – worth seeing.

And in proper news:
Free to marry – this article actually brought tears to my eyes
GOP groups play 527 catch-up – I hate 5plus2equals7. Why don’t you?
Nader says his issues key to Kerry win – I’ve been saying all along that he had something else up his sleeve… Hey Kerry! Stop defending yourself and start acting like a progressive leader!
Backers of Gay Marriage Ban Find Tepid Response in Pews – in my best Bart Simpson laugh, “ha-ha!”.
The Political Fallout: Bush’s New War Plan – the scene has changed; I no longer ‘hate everyone’; I now hate Bush so much that, by contrast, he is the only one I hate.
Apple’s GUI Patent Strategy is Transparent – they just patented transparent (and translucent) windows for OSs.
Mac under fake Word 2004 attack – why oh why would you open an unknown file? Oh well, the viruses have now hit OS X… Makes me wonder if it’s not Microsoft trying to put a stop to pirating (I’m not accusing, just wondering… this is neither liable nor slander).
Mac Rumors: G5 iMac? – yummy.
