take em all on!

Massachusetts Shifts a Bit on Gay Marriage
What a bunch of wusses! ‘Everybody let’s get [married]!’

Democrats unveil immigration plan
“Four months after President Bush raised the prospect of immigration reform, Democrats on Tuesday countered with a plan that would import guest workers and legalize most of the nation’s 8 million to 10 million undocumented immigrants.” (!)

2-for-1 Voting
The optimist in me wonders if this is what Nader is going to do. It’s the only way it makes sense, since he is not running on the Green Bill, and I don’t believe the hype that he is just a narcissist…

Battlefield Reporting: What’s In Your Gadget Bag, Peter Maass?

Disney Forbidding Distribution of Film That Criticizes Bush
Outrageous banning of Michael Moore’s new film. Simply outrageous.

Joi Ito’s Web: Dali on intellectual property
Maybe after he ‘[was] surrealism,’ he would have gone on to be ‘open source.’

Steve Jobs to Kick Off Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference 2004 with Preview of Mac OS X “Tiger”
Tight lips, but I’m wondering if some of the peripherals I have that do not work in Panther will do as such in Tiger. I can just skip the black cat, and head for India then…

scott snibbe is cool

A friend recently reminded me of Scott Snibbe’s Artwork, very worth checking out. Some fantastic uses of technology, which interface with the body, in very conceptually sound ways.

That very same friend introduced me to Michael Takeo Magruder, an artist-curator in England who also deserves attention.

And here in SA, the new issue of A R T T H R O B is live and online.

And for those of my alma-mater, fellow ITP alum, Yuri Gitman’s project, magic bike, has been Slashdotted!

various webcam + art tech stuff

Like me, you may have been thrilled to find the fantabulous Unibrain Fire-I firewire webcam, which works stunningly well with various video applications, including Jitter and the TrackThemColors Xtra for Director – the most commonly used apps for interactive video, namely motion and body tracking. Also, like me, you may have installed the IOXperts webcam driver, which allows for a bit more flexibility in your camera’s settings (tho neither that, nor the built-in OS X driver, allows you to save said settings, it seems).

But wait, there’s more.

Soon after installing said driver, you may gone and tried to do some log and capture functions in Final Cut Pro, only to get the error, “The application Final Cut Pro has unexpectedly quit.” I restarted, tried again, zapped the P-RAM – to no avail. As it turns out, the IOXperts drivers is incompatible with FCP’s log and capture on many machines! SO, you either need to choose between it and your editing suite (and just use the built-in driver), or else continually uninstall and re-install. Sigh. The uninstall instructions are on the FAQ page of the IOXperts site.

Skin Pistol

The Apple Way

Can you believe Bush has the audacity to attack Kerry on service?

Question: Did Kerry Discard Vietnam Medals? Answer: who cares? Why do the Dems consistently give in to complaints by the Repubs? If Bush can keep silent, and the problem gets ignored, why does Kerry keep fumbling? He’s obviously lying and/or confused or whatever… Why not just keep his mouth shut? It’s the one thing Bush is good at when the public makes allegations against him. And it has kept him alive. I ask again, what’s worse: lying about going to war and sending people into harm’s way, or lying about ‘relations’ with an intern? Sigh.

stupid email

It’s that time of the month – keep away from me. I’ve got PMS: Pre Mailbox Syndrome. My inbox is flooded so much (didn’t I just do this?) that I’m actually starting to get happy about the 20 junk emails I get a day – they at least make it seem like I’m making a dent when I hit the delete button.

Freelance is on hold for a bit, and I’m working hard on my new installation, step inside today. More on that soon enough…

Oh, and at least there’s this:McSweeney’s Internet Tendency: Saddam’s Interrogation Logs

awesome max/msp + jitter resource

Max Objects dot com is a searchable database of over 1500 max/msp/jitter objects, by keywords (externals – free and for sale – and included objects with the app; all are specified as to which of these they are, with links to how to get them; most are freeware or shareware, to use with max). If you join (free!) it also allows you to put in new objects not listed, so that the database grows. Yay, art!
