on my way!

Before I go:

Local film audiences giving ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’ thumbs-up
New Polls Show Tight US Presidential Race (but hopefully, this won’t last :)
And finally, Berlin Mutant Boy Extra Strong– the first recorded “mutation” that results in something good! Weird thing is, after reading the article, I’m not sure if it’s a mutation, meaning genetic…. It feels like hype on the marvel comic. Still, it’s pretty cool, and gives me ideas for my children’s book.
see you in a week!

art and tech in SA

MUST READ: The New York Times > Movies > Will Michael Moore’s Facts Check Out?

Did you guys know that Telkom is setting up T-Zones – 802.11b (WiFi) hot spots – around the country? Not sure how many are planned, but you KNOW I’ll be testing the one over in Rosebank as soon as I get back from the states with my new Airport enabled laptop. In other SA news, I think Clive Kellner, the new director of the Johannesburg Art Gallery, is a pretty alright guy. I’m hoping I can help him see the JAG to new heights, and he can help me get my first solo exhibition up and running as I imagine it (hehe). Additionally, Carine Zaayman reports on Creative Commons in the above linked article, but leaves out that they are hoping to start a South African branch (I spoke to one of their representatives recently, thanks to Marcus Neustetter)….

Congrats to my Wits students for a fab show!

Boarding a plane tonight, so you may not hear from me for a bit.

digital arts MA, etc

I am a terrible blogger cuz I’m not even sure how long it’s been since my last blog. Can you believe life carried on without me?

Since my last blog, Tom Igoe and Dan O’Sullivan’s Physical Computing Book was published – a must for all!

Along those same lines, my students’ first interactive Digital Art exhibition opened at Wits on Friday, and was even the Mail and Guardian’s Art Pick of the Week for Gauteng (at least in print – the site does not seem to have been updated yet).

The reason I have not blogged, you ask? Cuz I’ve been helping those cats out, and prepping for my trip. Things I’ll miss – well, Jo Ractliffe’s ‘destined to go down in South African art history’ solo show at Warren Siebrits (sp?) for one. See it open on Thurs, and you can tell your grandkids you were there.

OK. I know I’m a tease, but I have loads to do – I promise, I’ll blog more often once I am on the road. Lots to talk about when I am in Cuba, I am sure (go ahead. say it. you know you’re jealous….).

grrrrrrr

From Bush, Unprecedented Negativity – it’s about time somebody printed a front page article exposing Bush’s lies about Kerry. Unfortunately, this article does not have the same exposure as the Bush ads do, and most of the damage is done….

Americans Angry About Iraq – but at least people are finally angry about the War of Error, er, War for the Wealthy, er you know what I mean.

Campaign Ads Are Under Fire for Inaccuracy – a slightly less biased view in inaccurate advertising (but why does the NY Times, even after their apology for poor coverage on Iraq, still assume we want a seemingly objective – cough, cough – view?).

Congressional Memo: Even Some in G.O.P. Call for More Oversight of Bush – after all, even Republicans are beginning to strip themselves of some of their bias….

Discipline Takes a Break at the White House – when push comes to shove, and you can’t blame Clinton (as the current White House loves to do), whatchya gonna do?

Mickey Mouse Mofo – really smart use of google’s image search to make a “rock” video

polliticking bomb

Poll: Bush Has Likeability Edge on Kerry – this is very scary, especially when you see this: McSweeney’s Internet Tendency: The Making of the Autobiography of George W. Bush (an Excerpt)

Los Angeles Times: Kerry Feels Squeeze on Iraq Policy
Democrats Wonder if Kerry Should Stay on Careful Path
And of course there’s this on the Veepstakes: McSweeney’s Internet Tendency: PROS AND CONS OF JOHN KERRY’S TOP TWENTY VICE-PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES

And in other news:
Feed the Worms Who Write Worms to the Worms – The economic logic of executing computer hackers. By Steven E. Landsburg – OK, so it’s a bit much, but he makes some interesting points in here.
‘Super Size Me’ Gets Downsized by MTV – I remember hearing about this documentary. I wonder when it’ll hit South Africa….

play with yourself

BUSHGAME.COM – THE ANTI-BUSH ONLINE ADVENTURE – this has to be one of the best things I’ve ever seen. The intro is brilliant, and the surprise guests are fantastic – be sure to see all of their “special powers,” when using them, by pressing the enter key with each character…

Mac OS X v10.3.4 Update – I’m still on 10.2.6 myself (for compatibility issues with my serial to USB port, for physical computing), but that doesn’t mean you have to be.

But back to politics, From the Editors: The Times and Iraq – has to be the biggest kick in the pants I’ve seen in a bit. The LA times has become the only voice of reason over the past while, and the NY Times has been, well, crap. Does this mean they are ready to shape up their act again?

Emin tent feared to be among Saatchi works lost in fire – sad story. I guess if Duchamp work was in the fire, he would say it was now ‘finished.’

And now some blog features, from blogger:
Kuwait Diary
jerusalem wanderings
Andy Kaufman Returns
