Johann van der Schijff

So, Johann van der Schijff was visiting us from over at the Michaelis School For Fine Art at UCT (Cape Town) in order to externally examine our Interactive Media Design students – everyone agreed that his feedback was constructive and critically sound. We also went out for drinks later in the evening and discussed [inster various here]. At some point, I said something poetic, like, South Africans tend to express “emotions as physicality” when speaking aloud, and I promised him that I’d blog it.

In other news, Angus has thrown down the gauntlet. See, but, when I say it’s his fault for [insert something very distasteful here], more people read it, cuz I been online longer and get more traffic. IT’S ON!!!!

CAE defense fund – for those of you who have not heard, members of the Critical Art Ensemble have been subpoenaed by the FBI, under the US PATRIOT act, for being potential bioterrorists. Their supplies for art about biotechnology, which can be found on just about any college campus, and in many high schools, obviously serve as some kind of threat to Ashcroft. On further reading, I discovered that Steve Kurtz, whose wife had died in her sleep that morning, had his whole block cornered off, and his wife’s body taken as evidence…. The New America is looking like the Old South Africa more and more each day.

On a quick search to see who shared a birthday with me, the first name to come up was Kenny G – am I the only one who sees this as a bad omen?

Last night, Kupfer (whose blog seems to be updated nearly as often as I have a birthday) did some magic tricks for me at the PG club – I, of course, was utterly thrilled. I’m like a little kid in how much I love that stuff, but without any desire to learn how it’s done. He even gave me a small trick of my own as a gift.

Nicky got me a great book on contemporary narrative theory (YAY!), and a fleece robe (I’m always cold). My mom-in-law got me a computer thriller called Firewall, as I’m on a big thriller kick lately. Fitting.
I’m hoping that the generous gifts my family usually shower on me may provide something viable towards buying a new iBook!

I do not feel any older, but am happy to celebrate life. I’ve been feeling a little exhausted lately, and am hoping that my upcoming trip will prove inspirational, beyond that end. When I’m tired, I get down – it’s just not part of my being to stop moving, I think.

Anybody wanna hang out in NYC, Ithaca, Cuba or Dublin in the next while?

grrrrrrr

From Bush, Unprecedented Negativity – it’s about time somebody printed a front page article exposing Bush’s lies about Kerry. Unfortunately, this article does not have the same exposure as the Bush ads do, and most of the damage is done….

Americans Angry About Iraq – but at least people are finally angry about the War of Error, er, War for the Wealthy, er you know what I mean.

Campaign Ads Are Under Fire for Inaccuracy – a slightly less biased view in inaccurate advertising (but why does the NY Times, even after their apology for poor coverage on Iraq, still assume we want a seemingly objective – cough, cough – view?).

Congressional Memo: Even Some in G.O.P. Call for More Oversight of Bush – after all, even Republicans are beginning to strip themselves of some of their bias….

Discipline Takes a Break at the White House – when push comes to shove, and you can’t blame Clinton (as the current White House loves to do), whatchya gonna do?
