art South Africa

Here’s a pic of James Webb and Matthew Kalil’Äôs “There are far too few Friday nights left in the world” – I grabbed the still from this month’Äôs ARTTHROB, which is edited by the capable former. Of course, it’Äôs the sound issue, given his propensity (lucidity?) towards and with sound installations.

Quicklink:
theory action figures – thanks to Ronan Coyle (no, really! Michel Foucault waves his baton in poststructuralist style at all challenges!).

p-comp and wearables

make at o'reilly

Looks like the rumored O’Reilly magazine, Make is finally going to come out. Yay, physical computing projects!

In other news, my bud kaki is over at the Banff New Media Summer Arts Festival for the wearables workshop. Is there a wearables community in SA? I’d be keen to see what they’re up to, and how we could connect with the growing digital arts and digital video (and slowly building p-comp) communities.

20 days late, I learn of Sean O’Toole’s departure from ArtThrob. Art South Africa is a lucky magazine: A R T T H R O B _ N E W S

greetings from dubs

I go to Dublin for ONE DAY and look how much the world changes!

Yes, I am in Dublin visiting some friends at the Digital Hub, Trinity College and the Media Lab Europe (sorry for no links – got lazy once blogthis was on my machine, and I am a guest on one lacking blogosphere ideology; these places are easy to find online). So far, it’s rainy.

News:
Kathryn Smith has left the Trinity Session! This is now public knowledge, but still breathtakingly sad. All three (including her, Stephen Hobbs and Marcus Neustetter) are capable artists, innovators and facilitators, but this will surely stir things up in the SA art scene at large! I can’t wait to see what changes and what stays the same with Marcus and Stephen followed by their new support staff….

max/msp 4.5 is now out! There are some major changes great for programmers, web developers, and sound artists working with visualization, etc.

And how could I go on without mentioning the minor victory for all Americans, with regards to same sex partnerships/marriage, in the washington post.

what a week.

on my way!

Before I go:

Local film audiences giving ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’ thumbs-up
New Polls Show Tight US Presidential Race (but hopefully, this won’t last :)
And finally, Berlin Mutant Boy Extra Strong– the first recorded “mutation” that results in something good! Weird thing is, after reading the article, I’m not sure if it’s a mutation, meaning genetic…. It feels like hype on the marvel comic. Still, it’s pretty cool, and gives me ideas for my children’s book.
see you in a week!

homeward bound

No more bets – Cuban art? You betya. Can you believe I’ll be in Havana tomorrow?

SO, again, you will not hear from me in a bit. I’ve been traveling, and am now in NYC (SO GOOD TO BE HOME!!!), tho I feel even more South African in NYC than I do in Joburg. Tomorrow, I leave for Catro land, where I will be for one solid week! My52weeks52works stuff has not been updated in ages, but at least it’s looking like I may have gotten them a net.art news (rhizome) in the near future….

see ya when I see ya.
