odys, Nathaniel, hektor, X is a video installation
that directly addresses questions of multiplicity and possibility
to the viewer, referred to as X, through its multiplicity
of characters: odys,
Nathaniel, & hektor.
These three 'individuals' spend four minutes on screen, each trying and failing to take control of the
space in their own familiar ways, whilst sharing a bagel and a glass of water.
odys, Nathaniel, hektor, X uses gesture, sound, and perspective to explore
questions of masterful coherence. For example, the same actor plays all
three distinct characters; each of the three players (and X) has their own simultaneous
soundtrack; and the video is re-projected at full-scale onto a mock-up of the
original set, which hangs, sideways, from the wall. The sheer surreality of this
piece mocks any coherence of a singular self in isolation. Viewers are physically
and psychically disallowed any kind of 'transcendence as ownership'.
