The hottest new gallery in town, Franchise (run by Jena McCarthy over at 44 Stanley Ave, Joburg), just got hotter. They’ve renovated their space, making enough room for two shows; lots of natural light, and space for installation (and parties!) as well as intimate wall hangings. Jena is really into the idea of having combinations of contemporary commercial/for sale and more experimental type exhibitions there. Above is a pic of one of Jane Cheadle’s video works, either entitled The Guard or The Swimmer (OK, so the show could have been labelled better), both from this year, and on exhibition right now. Jane is sharing one of the rooms with Cobi Labuscagne, while the other room is displaying beautiful sculpturally designed (I think they are prints or drawings, but I’m not really sure – please insert a fitting word here) by Ann Marie Pena (anybody out there know how to get wordpress to let me insert a special character, such as an ‘n’ with a tilde on it?), one of The Bag Factory’s artists in residence this quarter.
