What a week!
I like to think that my opening at outlet last Wednesday was pretty successful – there was a very nice Joburg/Pretoria mixed crowd, and so far, there seems to be interest from 3 parties in purchasing the limited edition DVD (out of 5). I’d appreciate any feedback from gallery-goers – the installation was a re-visitation to an older style for me, so I’m curious to hear thoughts from the South African public.
My distance course, “net.art: online interventions” has now entered final project mode, and I’m very excited about the collaborative work happening between my students (this class is for the Minneapolis College of Art Design). Already, my Fall course, “portfolio.net,” is full, with a wait-list, but there’ll be plenty of room in the summer class (American summer, that is), if you’re interested (follow the link above).
My Wits class has also entered production mode. We are beginning to plan the Digital Media mid-term exhibition, which will see some of the class’ first interactive projects in a public forum.
And it seems to be the season for new friends. Other than the bubbly Bridget Baker, I’ve been having contact (thanks to this site) with a South African expat, named Jo, now living in Boston. We seem to click as “strangers in a familiar land” – both feeling very American and South African at the same time. Our hopes and dreams for our countries, as we see South Africa move forward, and the US move backward, are the ties that make it interesting…
