{"id":889,"date":"2005-11-06T16:02:28","date_gmt":"2005-11-06T14:02:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nathanielstern.com\/blog\/?p=889"},"modified":"2005-11-28T04:58:51","modified_gmt":"2005-11-28T02:58:51","slug":"physical-computing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nathanielstern.com\/blog\/2005\/11\/06\/physical-computing\/","title":{"rendered":"physical computing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artthrob.co.za\/05nov\/project.html\">Nice li&#8217;l article on p-comp in South Africa by Carine Zaayman in Artthrob this month.<\/a> Granted, I&#8217;m more than biased, since it&#8217;s mostly about Ralphy Borland and me, but it&#8217;s really cool to see such a staple arts publication making a statement like that. <i>Must read<\/i> if you have no idea what the title of this post means&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>With regards to finding info on p-comp in SA, <a href=\"http:\/\/physicalcomputing.co.za\/\">Ralphy Borland&#8217;s site<\/a> has way more than mine, but I gotta give props to <a href=\"http:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/~tqi6023\/\">Tom Igoe<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loot.co.za\/shop\/main.jsp?page=detail&#038;id=714088655185076425\">the book<\/a> he wrote with Dan O&#8217;Sullivan for getting started. If in Natal, no need to feel left out &#8212; Colleen Alborough has a beautiful p-comp installation up at KZNSA for another few weeks! She used the aforementioned book (with a little help from Borland) to teach herself how to hook up alarm-based motion sensors to her computer , and use them as triggers for projected animations and sonic treats.<\/p>\n<p>And speaking of community, I am still taking guest bloggers on: <a href=\"\">contact me<\/a> if you are interested in writing on this site. No restrictions on anything other than image sizes! Oh, and no porn or torrentz (I&#8217;m not The Man, please be reasonable)&#8230;.
