Today was one of those "run-around town" type days. Now that I have
\nSouth African permanent residence, I was able to get my contract verified and
\na Wits<\/a> ID, with a parking
\npermit. Exciting. <\/i>I also looked around town a bit for a mode of transport,
\nand got some "business" (more like "art") cards made up, with
\nmy contact info on them. Thrilling. <\/i>Delivered a small gift for a friend
\nthat I picked up in the states a few months ago, but just hadn’t had a chance
\nto drop off until now. Amazing. <\/i>The biggest news of the day is that I ran
\ninto Steven
\nDubin.<\/a> (This is actually kind of nice.)<\/i> He’s the author of Arresting
\nImages: Impolitic Art and Uncivil Actions,<\/a><\/i> among other interesting reads,
\nand a genuinely nice guy. I met him after my first week or so, on my first trip
\nto SA, and it was nice to have a progressive American around to bounce my initial
\nreactions off of (if only for a few days, since he left that week). It seems he
\nis here again, on a Fullbright
\nScholarship<\/a> for the year, so I’m hoping we get to spend some time together,
\nchatting and seeing art :) Before we parted, I gave him one of my "Dissent
\nis Patriotic" pins to wear, in opposition of the war, and he seemed more
\nthan pleased.
