Today&#8217;s<br \/>\ntopic, thanks in no small part to the help of the charming Jerry Botha over at<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deloitte.co.za\" target=\"_blank\">Deloitte,<\/a> will be: taxes.<\/p>\n<p>So it seems that due to my South African residence, and the fact that I have spent<br \/>\nless than (I think it was) 180 days in the US, I will likely get back <em>all<\/em><br \/>\nof my deducted taxes from the US &#8211; this is for the work I did in both New York<br \/>\nand Minneapolis, on both the state and federal level.<\/p>\n<p>If you are in a similar position to my own elsewhere in the world, don&#8217;t get too<br \/>\nexcited just yet &#8211; I will then have to pay South African taxes (much higher rates)<br \/>\nfor my income <em>worldwide<\/em>. Luckily, I&#8217;ll be able to use deductions from<br \/>\nmy home office, but this is still a chore, and I will probably wind up owing a<br \/>\nbit (give or take a lot).
