{"id":310,"date":"2004-03-07T11:16:06","date_gmt":"2004-03-07T17:16:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nathanielstern.com\/blog\/?p=310"},"modified":"2005-02-04T09:49:53","modified_gmt":"2005-02-04T07:49:53","slug":"stuff-for-the-technical-art-geek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nathanielstern.com\/blog\/2004\/03\/07\/stuff-for-the-technical-art-geek\/","title":{"rendered":"stuff for the technical art geek"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <b>Tech \/ Geek \/ Art:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/slashster.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Slashster<\/a> &#8211; a <a href=\"http:\/\/slashdot.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">slashdot<\/a> version of friendster for geeks who want to keep in touch&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Peter Jackson has a few new movies in the works, including <a href=\"http:\/\/us.imdb.com\/title\/tt0360717\/\" target=\"_blank\">King<br \/>\nKong (2005)<\/a> and the LOTR pre-quel, <a href=\"http:\/\/slashdot.org\/articles\/03\/12\/02\/0254253.shtml?tid=199\" target=\"_blank\">The<br \/>\nHobbit<\/a> (note that this latter link is to a slashdot internal page, and even<br \/>\nbetter than the announcement are the very &#8216;in&#8217; responses to it!).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kernelthread.com\/mac\/oshistory\/\" target=\"_blank\">A History of Apple&#8217;s Operating Systems<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/tech\/webguide\/internetlife\/2004-03-05-mini_x.htm\" target=\"_blank\">New, smaller, flashier iPod sells out fast<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fingamidi.sourceforge.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">FingaMIDI:<\/a> cool for two reasons. 1. The new trackpads are now sensitive to <i>amount<\/i> of touch (in other words, they are all li&#8217;l ADCs &#8211; analog to digital converters). 2. Already, geeks have made room for artists to use this to their advantage, via Max\/MSP!<\/p>\n<p><b>The transition to politics:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eod.com\/americanpeople\/\" target=\"_blank\">The American People:<\/a><br \/>\ncurrent blog which relays many right wing articles that use the words &#8216;The American<br \/>\nPeople,&#8217; in vain, to their own advantage.<\/p>\n<p><b>Kerry\/Edwards\/Bush\/Dean:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A28566-2004Mar3.html\" target=\"_blank\">Kerry<br \/>\nBacks Benefits for Legally United Gays<\/a> &#8211; perhaps kerry is cooler than he first<br \/>\nappears? Maybe he has a better chance than Gore did, because he actually has <i>some<\/i><br \/>\nviews he is willing to tell to the public, rather than basing everything on polls<br \/>\nuntil it is too late&#8230; Still, he is nowhere near as cool as my boy Howard Dean<br \/>\n(or Kuchinich, while I&#8217;m at it). If you have CNN, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/CNN\/Programs\/presents\/\" target=\"_blank\">True<br \/>\nBelievers: Life Inside the Dean Campaign,<\/a> on today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/03\/05\/politics\/campaign\/05MONE.html\" target=\"_blank\">Kerry<br \/>\nCamp Plans to Raise $80 Million<\/a> up against Bush&#8217;s continually growing, but<br \/>\nalready at, $100 Million. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/NASApp\/cs\/ContentServer?pagename=thestar\/Layout\/Article_Type1&#038;c=Article&#038;cid=1078528209173&#038;call_pageid=968256290204&#038;col=968350116795\" target=\"_blank\">Bush<br \/>\nand Kerry [are starting to] square off<\/a> with that money, but that&#8217;s not the<br \/>\nreason I liked to the article. <em>This<\/em> quote is:<br \/>\n&#8220;Two-time presidential candidate Adlai Stevenson once had a woman supporter shout out, &#8216;Mr. Stevenson, all thinking people support you!&#8217; To which Stevenson replied, &#8216;That&#8217;s wonderful. But I need a majority.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/investing\/la-na-briefs7.3mar07,1,7707073.story?coll=la-headlines-business-invest\" target=\"_blank\">Buffett Charges Bush Tax Cuts Favor Wealthy<\/a> &#8211; well, duh, but it <i>is<\/i> nice to finally hear a rich person say as such.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A31978-2004Mar4.html\" target=\"_blank\">Steal<br \/>\nThis Speech<\/a> = interesting take on how Edwards changed the campaign (tho, I<br \/>\nread a similar one on Clark last week, which was utter rubbish; it&#8217;s that time<br \/>\nof year&#8230; but on one is arguing about Dean, are they?). More importantly, the<br \/>\nworld waits with baited breath to see who Kerry will choose for his VP running<br \/>\nmate!<\/p>\n<p>Last, not least, this article gives a very biased view of how Nader will change<br \/>\nthe election (again). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/politics\/president\/articles\/2004\/03\/05\/spoiler_role_is_reflected_in_poll\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spoiler<br \/>\nrole is reflected in poll.<\/a> I <i>must<\/i> point out two very obvious things<br \/>\nhere. 1. it is an AP poll, which is predominantly lefties, who will vote for Nader.<br \/>\n2. if I ,as a former Nader voter, were to take said poll (which counts for nothing),<br \/>\nI would vote for Nader, too.
