{"id":1565,"date":"2007-12-09T21:05:24","date_gmt":"2007-12-09T19:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nathanielstern.com\/blog\/2007\/12\/09\/dvblog-feature\/"},"modified":"2007-12-09T21:05:24","modified_gmt":"2007-12-09T19:05:24","slug":"dvblog-feature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nathanielstern.com\/blog\/2007\/12\/09\/dvblog-feature\/","title":{"rendered":"dvblog feature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>somehow missed <a href=\"http:\/\/dvblog.org\/?p=697\">this feature<\/a> a few days ago:<\/p>\n<p class=\"storycontent\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dvblog.org\/movies\/07_2007\/sentimental_construction.mov\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dvblog.org\/wp-content\/images\/sentimental-construction.jpg?w=850\" alt=\" Sentimental Construction\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dvblog.org\/movies\/07_2007\/sentimental_construction.mov\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\nSentimental Construction (2007, 25.4MB, 6:31 min)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nathanielstern.com\/\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nathaniel Stern<\/a> took a bit of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icommons.org\/articles\/the-art-happens-here-the-full-exhibition-review\" target=\"_blank\">hammering<\/a> in various quarters for this piece,<br \/>\nmade on a residency in Croatia.<br \/>\nI think there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s an probably an element of you-had-to-be-there about this<br \/>\n<em>although<\/em>, that said, I think the video is rather magical &amp;<br \/>\ndoes as good a job of summoning the kind of ephemeral spell this stuff can weave<br \/>\nas any I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen.<br \/>\nLastly it has to be said the reason Nathaniel is great is because<br \/>\n(1)  he has a frightening amount of energy, more indeed, really, than his fair share &#8211;<br \/>\nhe starts 5 \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcisms\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 before breakfast<br \/>\n(2) he is bold, unafraid to risk looking ridiculous &amp; therefore quite often as an artist<br \/>\nhe goes to much more interesting places than most\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<br \/>\nIn general I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll take a Nathaniel \u00e2\u20ac\u0153failure\u00e2\u20ac\u009d over quite a lot of folks\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153success\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thanks, Michael. <a href=\"http:\/\/nathanielstern.com\/2007\/tom-moodys-weblog\/\">Tom Moody came to this piece&#8217;s defense<\/a> a day or two after Paddy&#8217;s pan (above), as well.
