up and coming

Hey all. Still in bed, but at least managing to get out for a coffee (actually, herbal tea) now and again (even left the flat yesterday! Whoa!), and starting work on some research for an academic conference I have in August (Prague! So excited!), and a new large-scale, interactive installation / artwork idea I have… Am doing this on my laptop, and in books, from bed.

That Kebble deadline is coming up on 15 August; it’s a great exhibition, especially for new media, as they provide all necessary equipment for the works you enter. Check out the Brett Kebble Art Awards site for more information. Speaking of, the joint winners from last year, Tanya Poole and Phillip Rikhotso, will both be exhibiting in Johannesburg this month, at Franchise Gallery and Gallery Momo, respectively. I highly recommend checking these out – two very prolific and articulate artists.

Let’s see, in other South African awards, the ABSA award ceremony is also coming up in two weeks, and Sasol New Signatures just had it’s closing date – looking forward to seeing those works!

Shows… Since I am not going out much, I’ve mostly deleted my invites (bad nathaniel!), but I know there’s a Trapani exhibit at Gordart (oh, and I liked his Premises show), something coming up at Premises, and some workshops at ArtSpace. My students’ show just came down from Franchise, and I consider it a huge success. I hope you got to see it. Am also really looking forward to Sean Slemon’s final show of three in the Gauteng area, the next one to be at Premises again (his last show was fantastic, but it was during the Goldberg/flu/pneumonia trilogy that is still my life, so I didn’t get a chance to write about it).

Nutshell.
