Flashback

You are naked
In your left hand a glass of Lanzerac Pinotage ’Äô98
In your right hand a cigarette
Your breasts remind me of a poem by Anne Sexton
You sip your wine
Inhale your cigarette
Nipples erect
I am lost

sculptures at siebrits

I didn’t get a catalogue this time, so am admittedly at a bit of a loss about the work (I’m not exactly known for being an expert in African sculpture). There’s a little bit about it on the Siebrits site.

Still, the stuff is beautiful; is it just me, or is more and more of this kind of work being accepted as contemporary by the likes of the mainstream since Rikhotso’s Kebble win? It’s about time, and Warren Siebrits would likely be the first to agree – he’s been supporting local art that challenges traditional notions of the contemporary, and contemporary notions of the traditional, for ages. Him smart.
