I can’t believe I have finally made it to Prague.
there’s so much to write, i’m not even sure where to begin – and i’d rather be taking in the city than sitting here blogging the web.
Let’s see; Nicole (my better 2/3rds) and I are here for two conferences in a row, then for a bit of a holiday. Ironically, even tho nicole has been to two other conferences by this organization, this is the first time there are HEAPS of South Africans here. I guess if you put together a conference on Hope, we know what we’re doing, eh?
The next conference only starts on Thursday, and that’s the one I’m mostly involved in, so I got to take in the city a bit before writing the last bits of said paper. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a city so rich in history, with such strange juxtapositions of the old and the new… The city was destroyed much less than berlin, and the outposts of culture seem to reach further back, and to stranger and more widespread places… Admittedly, I’ve taken a huge interest in the now almost non-existant Jewish population, since they seemed to have had several golden ages in this city alone.
Man, and don’t forget the Golem (tho that link, the Wikipedia reference, is nothing compared to the Rabbi’s original).
Oh, here are the guys whose conferences these are – we’re doing Hope and Cybercultures.
OK. Here’s a figure of Christ that supposedly, A jew peed on, and so was forced to make a gold inscription, in Hebrew, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty.” Too bad most jews after the Holocaust are mostly Agnostic or Atheist…..
The Prague International Biennale is still on, so I’m hoping to make it to a few of the galleries – will let you know.
