Thanks to the 24.7
artist residency,
I’ve hooked up with the "not so enigmatic but undoubtedly
talented" Wayne Barker this week. If you are unfamiliar with his work, his
background features some very famous paintings, from the end of the apartheid
era in SA, worth looking into. This
performance piece
is one Wayne did in London (not sure when), which he is
looking to carry on exploring with. The updated collaborative performance will
feature South African dancer Nelly (I never did get her last name) and
myself (with some new software, of course featuring text and the body). Work on
it will begin tomorrow, and a test run will happen at the JAG – Johannesburg Art
Gallery – one week from this Saturday. Not that I have time to do this right now,
but Wayne and PJ (FATC
– Forgotten Angle Theatre Collaborative – also working on a piece with them now)
have to be two of the most exciting people I’ve ever been lucky enough to work
with, so how could I say no?
