Today, Luana (a dancer/choreographer that I worked with on the
double room) and I had our first meeting about a new performance we
want to propose. The piece, yet to be named, will be primarily slam/performance
poetry and sound effects – no bodies on stage, just suggestions of bodies, using
lights, smoke and shadow. There’s a bit more about it on my new
proposals page. In our discussion, we talked about the feel of the piece approaching
"sentimental deconstructions" – how’s that for conflicting taste? We’re
both interested in layering sound, poetry & music in ebbs and flows in order
to suggest flesh. The light, shadow, etc are to accent this "noise," and not the other
way around. I’m really excited about our ideas, and can’t wait to get started.
More soon…
