artistgame.com (tentative title)
the artistgame.com is an ironic 'near-game' at the interface of hacktivism,
artistic elitism in funding, and the digital art community at large. The
piece asks for the maximum amount of funding from rhizome
($3,500; will work with a lesser amount, but bear with me here). I will
then use the minimum amount of time and money possible to construct a
viable, working site, and for administrative fees. The rest of the money
gets contributed to the artistgame.com pot of points. Similar to rhizome.org's
process for funding, 'gamers' will vote, through a browser, on which
artists they believe deserve points for their work (write-in format, the
selected artist's email address must be provided). Each email address
a gamer provides gets one point to vote with, on a first-come/first-serve
basis. 1 point = $1, and the funds get distributed as such, to any number
of artists. The site will not be very secure, and hacker-gamers are welcome.
At a set date/time known only to those who cannot legally vote (myself,
rhizome administrators, etc.), the points will be tallied, and dollars
distributed to paypal accounts.
Wanna get funding? All bets are off: PLAY.
