I’m invested in the relationships between art and public discourse, and so in the role of the artist as a public figure. I have strong convictions about generosity in both artistic and academic circles. In addition to my art and collaborations, research and writing, I thrive on being a part of many online and real-world communities, on writing in the popular press and for various blogs, and on teaching and both giving and organizing workshops, lectures and panel discussions for the general public.
Among many others, I’ve written for, founded, and / or been a serving member of: rhizome.org, Upgrade! Milwaukee, iCommons / Creative Commons, Art South Africa, ArtThrob, SAartsEmerging, @joburg / Upgrade! Joburg, Art City, MyArtSpace and Leonardo ISAST; I’ve given workshops and lectures on interactive art, performance and open source / open content at various spaces and institutions all over South Africa and the world; and I’m more generally an advocate for emerging artists - through organization, writing and sometimes curating.
