various webcam + art tech stuff

Like me, you may have been thrilled to find the fantabulous Unibrain Fire-I firewire webcam, which works stunningly well with various video applications, including Jitter and the TrackThemColors Xtra for Director - the most commonly used apps for interactive video, namely motion and body tracking. Also, like me, you may have installed the IOXperts webcam driver, which allows for a bit more flexibility in your camera’s settings (tho neither that, nor the built-in OS X driver, allows you to save said settings, it seems).

But wait, there’s more.

Soon after installing said driver, you may gone and tried to do some log and capture functions in Final Cut Pro, only to get the error, “The application Final Cut Pro has unexpectedly quit.” I restarted, tried again, zapped the P-RAM - to no avail. As it turns out, the IOXperts drivers is incompatible with FCP’s log and capture on many machines! SO, you either need to choose between it and your editing suite (and just use the built-in driver), or else continually uninstall and re-install. Sigh. The uninstall instructions are on the FAQ page of the IOXperts site.
