Can you believe Bush has the audacity to attack Kerry on service?

Question: Did Kerry Discard Vietnam Medals? Answer: who cares? Why do the Dems consistently give in to complaints by the Repubs? If Bush can keep silent, and the problem gets ignored, why does Kerry keep fumbling? He’s obviously lying and/or confused or whatever… Why not just keep his mouth shut? It’s the one thing Bush is good at when the public makes allegations against him. And it has kept him alive. I ask again, what’s worse: lying about going to war and sending people into harm’s way, or lying about ‘relations’ with an intern? Sigh.

stupid email

It’s that time of the month - keep away from me. I’ve got PMS: Pre Mailbox Syndrome. My inbox is flooded so much (didn’t I just do this?) that I’m actually starting to get happy about the 20 junk emails I get a day - they at least make it seem like I’m making a dent when I hit the delete button.

Freelance is on hold for a bit, and I’m working hard on my new installation, step inside today. More on that soon enough…

Oh, and at least there’s this:McSweeney’s Internet Tendency: Saddam’s Interrogation Logs

Many businesses find that business email is very important, not just because with business email you have access to your email from anywhere but through business email you can track statististics.

got lost

I hate-hate-hate when people give bad directions (especially because, even with good directions, I tend to get lost). This morning, I drove in circles for 3 hours looking for a highway exit that did not exist; I finally gave up and came home, empty-handed, after failing an errand that was supposed to take me 45 mins. AAAAARGH! Joburgers, where is the “concrete highway”?

On a lighter note, the new Media Lab Europe / Research Associate application is online. They are specifically asking for new people in the Palpable Machines group, but will take apps for any of their hot topics. Cool stuff; cool place; cool people. Rock on.

I’ve booked next Friday, the 30th, for the first test-run of the beta software for my new interactive installation, “step inside”. Join us at 16:00, in the Wits Digital Convent, for a bit of testing, talking and gaff-tipping, in and around body-tracking techno-art.

awesome max/msp + jitter resource

Max Objects dot com is a searchable database of over 1500 max/msp/jitter objects, by keywords (externals - free and for sale - and included objects with the app; all are specified as to which of these they are, with links to how to get them; most are freeware or shareware, to use with max). If you join (free!) it also allows you to put in new objects not listed, so that the database grows. Yay, art!

Apple’s new, speed-bumped iBooks and PowerBooks are out (YUM!). Makes me wish I had the money to buy the one-older models, as the price goes down, while supplies last.

Campbell’s Soup has new Andy Warhol labels - what more needs to be said.

But, most exciting of all, my students loans from the US are now down to below the –insert obscene amount of money here– mark! Sigh. I wish interest was only something that applied to my work, and not the money I owe…

What a week!

I like to think that my opening at outlet last Wednesday was pretty successful - there was a very nice Joburg/Pretoria mixed crowd, and so far, there seems to be interest from 3 parties in purchasing the limited edition DVD (out of 5). I’d appreciate any feedback from gallery-goers - the installation was a re-visitation to an older style for me, so I’m curious to hear thoughts from the South African public.

My distance course, “net.art: online interventions” has now entered final project mode, and I’m very excited about the collaborative work happening between my students (this class is for the Minneapolis College of Art Design). Already, my Fall course, “portfolio.net,” is full, with a wait-list, but there’ll be plenty of room in the summer class (American summer, that is), if you’re interested (follow the link above).

My Wits class has also entered production mode. We are beginning to plan the Digital Media mid-term exhibition, which will see some of the class’ first interactive projects in a public forum.

And it seems to be the season for new friends. Other than the bubbly Bridget Baker, I’ve been having contact (thanks to this site) with a South African expat, named Jo, now living in Boston. We seem to click as “strangers in a familiar land” - both feeling very American and South African at the same time. Our hopes and dreams for our countries, as we see South Africa move forward, and the US move backward, are the ties that make it interesting…

Please consider making a donation to the Revlon Run/Walk For Women, for cancer research. That link is for a pledge in the name of Staten Island’s own, beloved Jennifer Wandy. She’s the rockin’est.
