New engine and directory, currently seeking link submissions: South Africa - Discover South Africa. Their art section is more than a bit lacking, but if it comes into use, early submission may be of some benefit :)

art in SA

My buddy, and co-studio sharer (what do you call that person? anyhow, I moved
out what with all my renovations at home; couldn’t really afford it any more,
plus I’ll have a home office / studio when it’s done; whenever that is), Kathryn
Smith,
is all the buzz in South Africa right now. She’s got all kinds of happenings
and awards to her name in the past while - just look at all the articles on her
in A R T T H R O B, the
most recent issue.

The Brett Kebble Art Awards, aka The Kebbles, aka BKAA, have launched BKAA2 - the prizes have doubled, bringing the grand to R200,000, the six categories to R60,000, and any number of merit awards to R10,000. Also of note is the new curator - Clive van den Berg - well-known SA artist, critic, and Fine Arts lecturer at WSOA - Wits School of Arts.

When Life
Happens,
the HIV/Aids arts, film and media festival, wrapped up on Monday
night, in Newtown. It was a fantastic success. Its initiators, PJ Sabbagha
and Keith Markland (of The Forgotten Angle Theatre Collaborative) are now on a
well deserved vacation just outside of Gauteng. Until next year…
