mooimark show

Filed under:me, art and tech, south african art — posted by nathaniel on 31 March 2003 @ 11:35 am

Been a few days since I last posted…
The Mooimark show, put on by Berlin curator Spunk Seipel, was last night in Johannesburg
and it went down very well. Some very interesting work, and a great crowd. Christian
and I are now hoping to possibly use the CITY+SUBURBAN space, as well many of
the old vacant buildings downtown, to throw regular art parties every other month
or so.
The war carries on, and so must The
Blair Bush Project.
We’re hoping to do a shoot at the UK consulate some time
this week. Due to prepping for the show last night, we missed a great opportunity
for footage at the protest downtown on Friday, but we’re confident that there’s
lots more where that came from…
Had a nice chat with my buddy Jonah
in Dublin yesterday, and I’m looking forward to seeing some of his writing - very
smart guy. You should look forward to it, too :)
My South African permanent residence came through this week! This means I can
come and go to/from the country as I please, and that I can legally work. Just
in time, too, as I will be starting to lecture in the new Digital Media MA program
at Wits School of the Arts
next week! What a perfect time to gain resident status somewhere other than the
US.

berlin vs. jozi

This Sunday: Berlin meets Johannesburg and versa vice at the Mooimark art party
in downtown Jozi! Several German and South African fine, video, digital and installation
artists will be exhibiting. If you missed [odys]elicit
in SA the last two times it was shown, check it! I’m really excited to see the
work that Berlin art party guru Spunk Seipel (of Gallery
Expo 3000)
curates… Info @ +27 72 247 0593 or Spunkseipel@aol.com
Also, shout out and thanks to Jonah
for letting me use some of his audiobored
clips on The Blair
Bush Project.

the blair bush project

The Blair Bush Project
(BBP) has now been added to my gallery
page.
There is a call
for participation
on the
BBP site
as well. Tell/show us how you feel about the current sociopolitical
climate! We’re actually having trouble finding anyone who is pro the War
- if you are, and have something to say, please share.
Of course, share if you are con, as well. I’ve been at the CITY+SUBURBAN studio most of the week, working with Christian
on the BBP…

submit! submit

You can now send images
of your posters
to The
Blair Bush Project
for global distribution! Click here.
It’s MCAD spring break this
week, so I thought that it would be an easy time to make art - how quickly the
time fills up! Just updating the BBP,
moving into the studio downtown, and the few crit sessions I agreed to do at AFDA
have left me with zero time, + utterly exhausted. One of these days, I’m going
to have to take a real break…

bush it good!

New and improved - 6 video clips now up and running for The
Blair Bush Project.
More to come - check
it out!

For those unaware, today is the Cricket World Cup here in Johannesburg; India
won the toss, but gave first batting to the Australians, who are currently kicking
butt…

Session
#003
is up! The
Blair Bush Project
continues…
Given the current state of the world, I doubt anything else I have to say will be
of any value.

I don’t want to just mimic every featured blog that blogger
posts, but Where is
Raed?
is yet another fab link they housed this week. Great insight, very
different global view… Check
it out!

PostScript: some doubts as to the author’s identity (Iraqi who blogs in English
& German about international politics)? Go here.

The Blair Bush
Project
continues… Christian
and I have more footage than we know what to do with, but we have uploaded our
favorite clip
from today’s shoot, here.
Footage we are expecting to edit and upload in the next week:
More protesters @ the American Consulate than you can shake a stick at!
Your heroes trying to get into the US Consulate and/or commercial offices!
Lots of security guards (sorry, did you say "art" project?)!
stay tuned…

akin for a poetry night

Filed under:poetry, south african art — posted by nathaniel on @ 1:30 am

Just got back from a great vibing poetry reading over in Melville with Tisch buddy,
Akin, and his friend
whose name I should probably not try to spell (Mutoto?). Really great poetry,
and it’s soooo nice to have a fellow (progressive) American here during the current
crisis. It hurts to see the world in such pain. General sentiment at the reading:
Bush is a turd. Akin
really impressed me with his verbage stylings, etc, and it seems we have found
partners to go to readings with, in each other. Rock like a masochist! OK. Time
for bed.
